Who We Are

The Workshop is held during the Forum Annual Conference and allows new lawyers to argue various media issues to a panel of "judges."

Twelfth Annual Media Advocacy Workshop
February 5, 2009
We invite you to join us for the Twelfth Annual Media Advocacy Workshop. The one-day Workshop, which will be held in conjunction with the 2009 ABA Forum on Communications Law Fourteenth Annual Conference, is a great opportunity to get "on your feet" training and feedback from deans of the media bar. As in past years, the Workshop will combine hands-on advocacy training with substantive areas of media law. Participants will break into small group sessions to focus on three different media topics.

During these sessions, participants will:

1)Argue a prior restraint motion

2)Argue a motion involving internet law and the right of publicity

3)Conduct a pre-broadcast review. You must register in advance to participate. These sessions will be based on hypotheticals that participants will receive in the weeks prior to the Workshop, along with all necessary background materials. We are excited to have another stellar group of distinguished media law practitioners to serve as our faculty, who will preside over the participants' arguments and provide constructive feedback.

Given their vast experience, the faculty members will provide participants with a significant amount of practical insight and useful strategies in media law advocacy. In addition, we will learn oral advocacy tips from experts on the final round of the First Amendment and Media Law Moot Court Competition.

The day includes breakfast, a luncheon and a cocktail party, providing plenty of opportunity for casual interaction between faculty and participants. We look forward to seeing you at the Workshop!

13th Annual Conference
February 5, 2009 - February 7, 2009
The conference will feature three plenary sessions and workshops designed to facilitate discussion on key issues. The workshops cover libel and privacy, insurance, internet, newsgathering, along with sessions on ethics, subpoenas, advertising and promotions, e-discovery, and entertainment. The conference is also the setting for the Forum's Media Advocacy Workshop, an all-day practicuum offered by the Forum's Training and Development Committee.
