Governance
The Section is governed by a Council composed of twenty (20) voting members. The Council includes twelve (12) Council Members, each serving for three (3) years. Four Council Members are elected each year at the Annual Meeting. The remaining members of the Council include five officers, the Section Chair, Chair-Elect, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Finance/Budget Officer. There is a Section Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates and the two immediate past Section Chairs ex officio. The Secretary and Vice-Chair are elected each year while the Finance/Budget officer serves a two-year term and the Section Delegate to the House of Delegates serves a three year term.
Council meetings are open to all members and held quarterly around the country. These meetings are customarily scheduled in conjunction with educational programming to encourage the broadest exchange of views, both in matters before the council and in developments in procurement law. Committee projects-such as white papers on hot procurement topics, comments on federal and state rule making, proposed testimony before Congress, and suggestions regarding court and board rules covering the full range of federal, state, and local procurement topics-are presented by Section committees to the Council for adoption, comment, and discussion at each quarterly Council meeting. Council Meetings are an independent, valuable, educational experience for all those present because the latest information available on matters affecting procurement are presented, debated, and discussed. Matters before the Council are fully described in a published agenda book available to all attendees at the Council meeting.
