Program Description
This program will focus on laws affecting franchise operations around the world, whether on the books in the U.S., Canada, the UK, or elsewhere. Topics for discussion include:
- Anti-corruption legislation, such as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and international analogues.
- Anti-terrorism laws, such as the USA Patriot Act, in the U.S. and elsewhere.
- U.S. sanctions against various countries, anti-boycott regulations, and blocked transactions, such as those enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
- Can a franchisor be held liable for the acts or omissions of its international franchisees?
- What are the risks of not complying?
- What type of compliance program is most effective in shielding franchisors from potential liability
