Program Description
With the rise in claims regarding contaminants and mislabeled packaging, it is more important than ever for attorneys to learn about food laws and regulations in order to serve their clients better. This teleconference and live audio webcast will offer relevant information about the emerging issues facing the food industry. From the basics to hotly contested issues today, participants will gain an understanding of:
- principal rules applicable to the marketing of food and beverage products and how these rules are enforced;
- identifying marketing claims and what level of substantiation is required;
- packaging and advertising food and beverages in the most attractive light without running afoul of the law;
- special attention that must be paid to “organic” claims and other green marketing claims;
- important considerations in private label product development and marketing;
- how evolving European Union regulations impact labeling and marketing of US goods including bans on geographical indications such as Champagne, traditional expressions such as Chateau and how these are reconciled with intellectual property law.
By the end of the program you will be able to spot legal issues that impact the packaging and marketing of food and beverages, the valuation of companies in the business of producing, marketing or distributing food and beverage products, and formalize contractual relationships between companies involved in production and resale of food and beverages.
