What is the ABA Connection?

It is a one-hour audio teleconference provided as a benefit for ABA members.

Who develops content for the ABA Connection?

Each month, in partnership with the ABA Journal and the Division of Membership and Marketing, the Center for CLE produces the ABA Connection. The program content is based on a selected article in the ABA Journal. When the topic is relevant to the work of particular ABA Sections or Entities, they will cosponsor these programs by suggesting members who would be appropriate as article contributors and/or participate as faculty on the teleconference.

Can other lawyers at my firm listen to the ABA Connection via speaker phone?

All participants who need CLE credit must register. Colleagues (who do not need CLE credit) may participate, without registering, through the use of speaker phones or internal conferencing equipment, but will not receive credit.

What materials do I need before the teleconference?

You will receive a participant confirmation packet by fax with instructions, a toll-free number to dial in, a personal identification number to access the call, a Teleconference Attendance Confirmation Form, an Evaluation Sheet, and a Program information page.

How many ABA Connection seminars has the ABA provided?

Since 1996 over 84 programs have been produced. Monthly participation has grown 250% since the ABA began offering this benefit. This is largely a factor of the general appeal of the topic and the availability of CLE credit. In calendar year 2003, average attendance was 2,500 per month.

Why does the ABA charge a $9.75 fee for the teleconference?

Over the past several years we have been able to bring to you the ABA Connection Teleconferences at no cost to ABA Members. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of this program, the ABA is no longer able to absorb the telecommunication costs involved in delivering the program. Starting with the January 2004 teleconference, the ABA will be charging a $9.75 non-refundable phone line charge at time of registration. Registration and the actual teleconference are handled via toll-free lines, so there is no out-of-pocket expense to the participating ABA Member other than the $9.75 cost to cover the phone line charges.
