The ABA offers its members two convenient ways to get CLE each month: by phone or online.

ABA Connection By Phone

Live Call-in Teleconferences $9.75

ABA Members and Associates can earn CLE credit, or stay current on relevant legal topics through monthly ABA Journal articles and
60-minute teleconferences held on the third Wednesday of each month. All programs begin at 1pm Eastern time.

ABA Members pay a non-refundable $9.75 phone line charge at the time of registration.
(Non-members pay $110).

  1. Call 1 (800) 285-2221 or register online. Have your ABA ID number and credit card ready for the $9.75 phone line charge (nonrefundable).
  2. Read the corresponding article in the ABA Journal before the program. Don't have it? Go to the ABA Journal.
  3. Via e-mail, you will receive a toll-free number for the program, your Personal Identification Number, and a link to the course materials page, which will provide access to the course materials, faculty biographies, an online program evaluation, and the Attendance Confirmation Form.
  4. Dial into the teleconference a few minutes before the scheduled time and enter your PIN.
  5. After the program, complete the online program evaluation (accessed through the course materials webpage), and fax your Attendance Confirmation Form to the ABA at 1 (312) 988-5250. When we have received the forms and verified your attendance, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance within three to four weeks.

Get CLE when your schedule permits

  • No wasted time commuting to and from seminars—just pick up the phone or go online in the comfort of your office or home.
  • Easy to schedule—just 60 minutes out of your busy practice.
  • Timely information from nationally recognized experts.
  • Readable feature articles to keep as course materials.
  • Potentially, ABA members can earn up to 12 hours of MCLE credit each year at no charge, or for a nominal fee. This program could save an ABA member from $700 to $1,000 annually in tuition costs alone to say nothing of travel, housing and lost productivity.

A Storm Brews Over Wind Power

Wind power is an essential element of the national push for alternative energy sources.  In 2008, the U.S. surpassed Germany as the world’s leading producer of wind-powered electricity.  Its advocates argue that wind power could one day provide twenty percent of the nation’s electricity while generating thousands of new jobs and revitalizing rural communities hard hit in the current recession.  People who live close to the new wind turbines, however, contend that wind power comes at a large price that the advocates ignore.  A growing group of people complain that the turbines emit loud whooshes and rumbles and a rhythmic hum that disrupts sleep and causes headaches, fatigue and nausea.  Others claim that shadow flicker caused by the spinning blades chopping the sunlight creates health problems as well.

The growing concerns over possible health effects of wind power have already resulted in some legal fights about where turbines should be located and how they should be regulated.  Because turbines are placed in wide open spaces, the task of sorting out these contentious issues has primarily fallen on local government bodies, as they take the lead on zoning regulations that determine how far from towns, homes and farms, the turbines have to be.  While it’s the local governments that try to work these issues out on the ground, the state and the federal government, who set standards on noise control and other matters and determine energy policy, have a keen interest in the outcome of local decisions.

Join our distinguished panel as they discuss wind power in the context of national energy goals and noise and nuisance standards and state and local government law.
