Mr. Grumet concentrates his practice in tax law with an emphasis on domestic and international non-profit organizations, personal tax planning, trusts and estates, probate and administration, charitable giving and philanthropy. Andrew Grumet discusses the importance of clear, well-thought-through corporate policies for non-profit organizations. In this 51-minute presentation he examines the need for, and suggests content for, policies in the following areas:

  • conflict of interest
  • banking and the receipt of donations
  • gift acceptance
  • attendance of board members
  • equal opportunity and sexual harassment
  • email
  • record retention
  • whistle blower protections
  • donor confidentiality and naming rights

He also explores the elements that should go into an effective statement of policy for a non-profit, including:

  • the relationship of the policy to the organization's mission
  • the purpose of the policy
  • a definition of terms
  • the actual policy
  • procedures for implementing the policy
  • addressing violations of the policy
  • enforcement and appeal
  • annual statements
  • the date of adoption
