This program presents tips to ensure that the domestic violence restraining order is more than just a piece of paper, including tips on:
• How to obtain a clear and enforceable order
• How to counsel victims on safety planning
• What steps to take in the event of a violation
• How to interact effectively with police.
• How to seek civil contempt for violations
• How to effectively present a contempt case
Panelists also discuss the new ABA standards for representing victims of domestic violence and the enforcement of protective orders after Castle Rock.
