Training and Technical Assistance

The National Child Welfare Resource Center on Legal and Judicial Issues provides free training and technical assistance to agencies, courts, and attorneys on all legal and judicial aspects of the child welfare system. We provide training and technical assistance on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • The Child and Family Service Reviews, including the role of the legal community in Program Improvement Plan drafting and implementation
  • Improving legal representation, specific to parent, child and agency representation
  • Federal laws
  • Legal ethics
  • Use of information technology in the court
  • Strategic planning for courts
  • Improving court procedure and practice
  • Collaboration between agencies, courts, and other key stakeholders

Our training and technical assistance is designed to meet the specific needs of the state/ jurisdiction. The goal is to create systemic change and we will work with you to identify short term objectives and long range goals.

This assistance can be provided on- or off-site and can be arranged through your local Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families Regional Office, or your state’s Court Improvement Project (CIP).
