The Bar-Youth Empowerment Project
Pro Bono Counsel for Youth Who Have or Are About to Age Out of Foster Care
Through its pilot sites, the Bar-Youth Empowerment Project will provide training and resources for attorneys to provide pro bono legal assistance to youth who have transitioned from care. We will continue to develop and collect resources and materials for attorneys working with transitioning/transitioned youth. If you have materials that should be included, please email kellyk@staff.abanet.org.
The National Child Welfare Resource Center for Youth Development in conjunction with American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law released a publication for judges, attorneys, and youth advocates around the country.
Improving Outcomes for Older Youth: What Judges and Attorneys Need to Know, is a comprehensive guide to federal legislation for youth in out-of-home care. The guide covers issues relating to housing, health, education, employment, undocumented youth, parenting youth, and tribal youth, among others.
