Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) & Recording Technology For Use in Child Abuse Cases
About the Program
Since 1993, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has provided funding so jurisdictions can purchase closed-circuit television (CCTV) and/or recording equipment to record and transmit forensic interviews and court testimony in child abuse cases. Funding may also be used for training purposes (legal, technological, interviewing). The goals of the CCTV and Recording Technology Grant Program are to:
- Help eligible states and local units of government (child advocacy centers, law enforcement offices and prosecutors' offices) purchase new and/or upgrade existing CCTV and recording equipment;
- Support the development and delivery of related training and technical assistance;
- Demonstrate the practical use of CCTV and recording equipment in obtaining testimony from child witnesses for use in criminal proceedings;
- Identify prototype CCTV and Recording Technology programs and encourage their replication; and
- Assess the effectiveness of projects funded under this Program.
