Ad Hoc Committee on Billable Hours
On-line Toolkit Welcome Page

Introduction to the On-line Toolkit

In 2001, the American Bar Association created a Presidential Commission, under the leadership of immediate past president Bob Hirshon, to determine the impact on the profession of the predominance of the billable hours system in delivering legal services. The ABA Section of Business Law, enthusiastic about the continued study of the impact of the billable hour, now houses the entity, renamed the Ad Hoc Committee on Billable Hours.

This on-line toolkit is designed to assist bar associations, law firms and law departments interested in presenting a program on billable hours and its impact on the profession.

The toolkit includes a selection of model programs, a Power Point presentation that can be customized, articles, research, case studies, an extensive bibliography and a speakers' bureau. If you present one of the model programs, we ask that you complete the Model Course Evaluation Form so that we can share your experience with others interested in presenting a similar program. The Commission is also available to assist you in identifying speakers and materials for your program.

We hope you find the toolkit useful. For further information, please contact Jill Eckert McCall of the ABA Career Resource Center at 312.988.6215; eckertj@staff.abanet.org.
