Event HighlightsJustice Stephen Breyer to Address Section Lunch
The Section is honored to announce that Supreme Court Justice Stephen
Breyer will be featured as the keynote speaker at this year's Section
Lunch, Friday March 16 from 12:30 - 2:30 PM at the Renaissance Hotel.
Justice Breyer will be speaking on "Active Liberty: Interpreting Our
Democratic Constitution". His comments, expounded upon in his book of
the same title, will urge judges to interpret legal provisions (of the
Constitution or of statutes) in light of the purpose of the text and how
well the consequences of ruling one way or another will fit those purposes.
His premise is considered a response to one laid out in 1997 by Justice
Antonin Scalia which emphasized adherence to the original meaning of the
text alone. Tickets are still available for this event and can be

Topics for both will cover up-to-the-minute issues and will run the gamut of business law. Specialized Committee and Subcommittee MeetingsCommittee and subcommittee meetings allow you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge in specific areas of the law. These specialized meetings provide updates on the latest substantive developments in virtually all areas of business law. These are excellent meetings to network with colleagues who share your interests and practice concerns. Your participation in the Section during law school will not only enhance your legal education, but will also equip you to make a smooth transition into your future career. At the Spring Meeting, you'll have the opportunity to learn more about business law through special programming for law students and by participating in networking events. And if that's not enough, Spring Meeting registration is FREE to all law students.Business Card Diversity Networking ReceptionThe Committee on Diversity is proud to host a complimentary reception to kick off the Spring Meeting on Wednesday evening, March 14 (the night before the start of the Spring Meeting). We welcome all attendees of the Spring Meeting who share our vision and are interested in recruiting and retaining lawyers of color, women lawyers, lawyers with disabilities, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lawyers, young lawyers, and law students for active involvement in the Section. Learn how to navigate the Spring Meeting and the vast array of the Section's resources and meet experts in your field. Or, just come to network and reacquaint with old friends and colleagues. From 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., we will spotlight the Section's 50+ committees during the Welcome Reception. This is a perfect opportunity to learnabout and join a committee, meet the committee leaders, hear about upcoming committee projects, and discuss the latest developments in business law. If you are a first-time Spring Meeting attendee, you will not want to miss this hour. In prior Spring Meetings, we have held a Committee Roundup to introduce you to our committees. This year, we will showcase all of our committees at the Welcome Reception. The second hour of the Welcome Reception will allow you to network with other attendees, catch up with colleagues, and make plans to attend one of the many committee dinners offered following the Reception. No ticket or advance registration is required. Women's Business Law Network (WBLN) Sweet Endings Dessert ReceptionThe Women's Business Law Network invites you to an end of the evening dessert party. After your committee or other dinner, come meet the women leaders of the Section and connect with the other attendees at the Spring Meeting. Dessert will be compliments of the WBLN on Thursday, March 15, from 10:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.Pro Bono Breakfast and Committee MeetingPlease join the Committee on Pro Bono on Friday, March 16, for a morning of pro bono activities. From 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., the Committee will host a complimentary breakfast. Breakfast speakers present their unique perspectives on the role of business lawyers in providing legal services that directly or indirectly help the poor. Meet and network with the Section's National Public Service Award recipients and other prominent business law pro bono community participants. The Committee will meet immediately following the breakfast, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The Committee Meeting is open to all Section members.Section LuncheonThe Section Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, March 16, from 12:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. Please be sure to check the Section's Web site for an announcement of this year's exciting guest speaker. During the Luncheon, the Section will honor the recipients of the National Public Service Awards, the Jean Allard Glass Cutter Award and the authorsof recently published books. The Section will also recognize the new Business Law Fellows, Ambassadors, Diplomat and CLEO Fellow scholarship recipients. Section DinnerDining at the Library of Congress is a unique experience, and we proudly announce that the Section Reception and Dinner will take place in the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building, Friday, March 16, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Dining in the spectacular grandeur of the recently restored facility with its impressive white marble arches, stucco decoration, and gold-ornamented ceiling is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that is not to be missed.Seating is limited.
