Business Law Today
July/August 2001 (Volume 10, Number 6) So how do you set this up?

The time required to learn the various programs varies, of course, from program to program and from user to user.

There are, however, potential time-saving economies down the road. Databases can be reused. Often it is easier to take a "used database" file, rename it, change the names of its fields and bulk delete all of its data entries than to start from scratch. Where this can be done, "stock" databases can be developed for reuse - one for exchanges, one for mortgage loans, one for income property transactions, and so forth. The key is the ability of the software to accommodate changes in the data-input form - such as the addition of fields and the change of field names.

Whether or not this flexibility is present in any given program should be investigated before that program is selected for the time investment involved in learning to use it.
