A call for Ambassadors
The Section of Business Law is seeking candidates for its Ambassadors Program, Class of 2002.
The primary goal is to increase the participation of lawyers of color in the substantive work of the Section and to help them progress into Section leadership. The program is also designed to enhance the image of the Section among members of the national bar organizations for lawyers of color in order to increase membership of lawyers of color in the Section.
To be considered for selection as a Business Law Ambassador, you must be an active member of a national bar organization for lawyers of color who has demonstrated a significant interest in an area of business law that coincides with the work of a substantive committee of the Section.
We understand the importance of building relationships, thus, we are promoting the program with the presidents of the national bar organizations for lawyers of color.
If you are interested, we encourage you to apply by expressing your interest in a letter to the president of the national bar organization in which you are affiliated that describes your substantive areas of interest as a business lawyer. A copy of that letter should be forwarded to Joanne Travis in the Section's Chicago office by Sept. 15, 2001. For more information on the program, contact the Section staff at 312/988-5588.
Revisions to UCC Article 9
On Aug. 15, 2001at 1 p.m. Eastern, the Section of Business Law is cosponsoring the ABA Connection one-hour CLE teleconference on "Understanding the Revisions to UCC Article 9." The ABA Connection program is a no-cost benefit of ABA membership and is sponsored by the ABA Journal, Membership and Marketing and the Center for CLE.
Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, which covers certain secured transactions and other sales, has undergone major revisions recently, but the changes are still new to many lawyers. So far, the revised Article 9 has been enacted in 27 states and is under consideration in a number of others. This program will set forth the basics. Continuing Legal Education credit has been applied for in states that accept the teleconference format.
