Section reports to House of Delegates
Recently, the Section submitted a report to the ABAHouse of Delegates urging the ABA to support the U.S. signing and ratification of the UN Convention on Independent Guarantees and Stand-by Letters of Credit.
The UN Convention on Independent Guarantees and Stand-by Letters of Credit can help U.S. parties doing business in those countries that do not have a developed body of law governing letters of credit, and in those countries where practice is concentrated in one or the other of the instruments governed by the Convention, and thus would further international trade.
The Business Law Today site was recently chosen as a selection for the Scout Report, the premier weekly collection of useful Internet sites. Published every Friday both on the Web and by e-mail, it provides a fast, convenient way to stay informed of valuable resources on the Internet. Sites are selected by a team of professional librarians and subject matter experts who select, research and annotate each resource.
New business connection
A State and Local Business Law Organization Connect is now available through the Section.
Be sure to check out this index of useful information relating to state and local business law organizations. This site was developed by the Committee on State and Local Bar Involvement, which can be found on the Section's Web site.
African delegation gets training
A 12-person delegation consisting of judges, private practitioners and government lawyers from four African countries Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and Zambia visited Washington in June to participate in an intensive month-long training session on substantive commercial law and alternative dispute resolution methods.
The Section, through the efforts of two commercial law experts who were sent to these four nations to conduct a needs-assessment tour, designed a program to assist in the creation, development and understanding of a commercial law infrastructure.
