Business Law Today

Our lead story provides an overview of the bourgeoning area of green building initiatives. Green building standards are not just a trend, they are here to stay. Several major cities having already implemented these standards for both municipal and private construction projects, with the federal and state governments poised to follow suit.

Next is an article on trade secrets and employee mobility. Employees today are working from planes, trains, and even automobiles. With company information being moved about in different formats and by different media, protecting trade secrets is becoming increasingly difficult, especially as the prime threat to a company's trade secrets originates from current and former employees.

We also have a report on securities class actions and derivative litigation, informing us that settlement costs are increasing for both, with directors increasingly paying part of settlements out of their own pockets. The article highlights what corporate counsel should be doing to protect the board and management.

A discussion follows on the differences of cross-border accounting, and how those differences can impact cross-border post-transaction M&A disputes.

Lastly, we take a look at outsourcing legal work overseas: how American lawyers living in Israel have entered the picture, and how smaller law firms will be the new growth area for the industry.

In addition, check out our other articles, as well as our departments: Snap Judgments, Keeping Current, and Pro Bono in Action.
