Paralegal & Business Law
In a law firm or legal department of any size, paralegals occupy an important role in the delivery of legal services. But because little was known about how business lawyers use these important professionals in their practices, the Section commissioned an ad hoc committee to study the question. As a result of that group's work, we know much more.
Our mini-theme this issue concentrates on this important professional's role in the delivery of legal services in the business context.
Frances Kao looks at several "bumps in the road" en route to trouble-free use of paralegals. Thomas Howell and Eric Orlinsky detail some of the findings of their committee's study, and the implications for efficient and profitable use of paralegals by business lawyers. Finally, Catherine Durgin considers the debate about regulating paralegals.
There is much here that can contribute to improvements in any law practice. We hope you enjoy it.
