Brown Plus 50: A Renewed Agenda for Social Justice
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Brown, New York University is planning a major commemorative conference on May 17-19, 2004. Participants will "consider both the continuing power of Brown and the current educational challenges anchored in the spirit of Brown." Preceded by a "Teach In" for 500 high school students, conference speakers include Charlayne Hunter Gault, Juan Williams, Ray Suarez, Frank Sesno, and Judge Robert L. Carter. It is being held at Kimmel Hall, located at the Washington Square campus of New York University.

The Year of Brown v. Board
In a series of scheduled events through Fall 2004, Columbia Law School is revisiting the groundbreaking Brown decision, exploring the events leading up to the ruling, and its continuing impact on society. Among scheduled events are the February 2, 2004 inaugural event on "The Lawyers Who Tried and Argued Brown"; an (invitation-only) address by President Bill Clinton on February 10; and panel programs on "America Before Brown," "Equality: The Mystery of Brown," "Brown: The Arts and Culture," and "Brown and the Law of Other Nations."
