The ABA Division for Bar Services

"A wonderful way...to learn" -- Susan Gill, president-elect, Kern County (CA) Bar Association

ABA President Tommy Wells' BLI

"Exceptional...and extraordinarily well received." What part of the BLI program did ABA President Tommy Wells find so exciting? Find out in his blog entry on his 2009 BLI experience.

About the Bar Leadership Institute

Sponsored by the ABA Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services and the Division for Bar Services, the ABA Bar Leadership Institute is the premier program for developing the skills and substantive grounding for leading a bar association with inspiration, insight and innovation. Completion of the program will provide you with a framework for addressing the issues that lie ahead, and help you implement a successful presidential year.

This video, shown at the 2009 Bar Leadership Institue, highlights how the Standing Committee for Bar Activities and Services and the Division for Bar Services work together to plan the BLI and to help you throughout your time as a bar leader.

Beyond BLI

Our leadership resource page complements what you learned at the BLI and is a key way we support you throughout your term. The page has articles, blogs, and Web sites on leadership and governance, and an always-popular president's page library.
