Mock Trial 2009: Defining the Relevant Market for Satellite Radio
Presented by the Trial Practice Committee
The mock trial will examine market-definition issues regarding the provision of satellite radio. Trial teams will focus their efforts on establishing and rebutting relevant markets, and the jury will be asked to decide which side prevailed on the issue. Attendees will have the opportunity to see how the trial teams and experts attempt to prove a relevant market and to observe how jurors understand and apply evidence and economics in the context of the merger. The Honorable Sarah S. Vance, District Judge, U.S. District Court, Eastern District Court of Louisiana, New Orleans, LA will preside over the Mock Trial.

Denying class certification, new FTC powers, and a look at what happened in antitrust in 2008! Recent class certification decisions have dramatically changed the landscape for future motions. Counsel who argued In re Hydrogen Peroxide Antitrust Litigation and In re Plastic Additives Antitrust Litigation will give fresh insight into these decisions that clarified that courts must resolve relevant factual and legal disputes. Are you aware of the new powers that will go to the FTC under pending legislation? They could seriously impact competition as well as consumer protection matters. And then we have the perennial favorite of Professor Calkins' look at last year.
