This week, leaders in consumer protection law are gathering at the American Bar Association 2009 Consumer Protection Conference in Washington, D.C.
Among other topics, they will discuss “Consumer Protection in Financial Transactions: The Need for a Financial Products Safety Commission,” at a session scheduled for tomorrow, June 19 at 2:15 pm.
Also of interest is tomorrow's luncheon address, "The Rise of the Consumer in the Obama Administration." Scheduled speakers include:
- Eric Stein – Deputy Assistant Secretary for Consumer Protection, U.S. Department of the Treasury
- Caroline Holland – Majority Chief Counsel, Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights (Senate Committee on the Judiciary)
- Christine Kurth – Minority Staff Director and General Counsel, Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation (INVITED)
- David Strickland – Senior Counsel, Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance (Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation) (INVITED)
In the past, the conference has drawn FTC commissioners, FTC Consumer Protection Bureau Directors, FTC chairmen, consumer protection officials from the offices of the leading Attorneys General, academics and many other leaders.
