Who We Are and What We Do

The American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law is the leading professional organization for those interested in the fields of antitrust and competition law, trade regulation, consumer protection and economics. Our more than 8,000 members include attorneys and non-lawyers from private law firms, in-house counsel, non-profit organizations, consulting firms, federal and state government agencies, as well as judges, professors and law students. We provide an outstanding assortment of programs, publications, discussion groups and timely updates on recent developments in all facets of antitrust and consumer protection law.

The Section of Antitrust Law is dedicated to providing its members the resources needed to enhance their practices and professional development. Our programs, publications, networks (listservs and personal connections), research tools (SAL), and committees are designed to serve the needs of those seeking either general background or highly specialized insights into antitrust and consumer protection issues on a periodic basis.

A Message From The Chair

Nicholas Wade recently reported in the New York Times that biologists are "beginning to form a generally sunnier view of humankind." If scientists at the University of Leipzig in Germany are right, then humans may not be as vicious as generations of savants have led us to believe. For example, the Leipzig researchers discovered that when young toddlers see an unrelated adult whose hands are full and who needs assistance picking up a dropped clothespin, they will immediately help. Based on this and other studies, the scientists conclude that helping is a natural inclination, not something imposed by parents or culture. (Mr. Wade also notes, however, that other scientists are more skeptical.)
