The Law and Aging Guide is a comprehensive listing of the state-wide resources available to help older persons with law-related issues. Published by the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging, the Guide includes important contact numbers and addresses for legal assistance providers and other law-related services for the elderly. Many states now have toll-free senior legal hotlines. If you are an older person (or family member or trusted friend of an older person) who needs legal advice or assistance, the first step is to see if your state has a hotline, and, if it does, to call the hotline listed below.

[Note: If you are legal services provider or entity listed below, please email any changes of address or information to the ABA Commission at abaelderly@abanet.org , attn: Law and Aging Guide.]

The Committee, established in 1977, still retains some of the members who have outgrown the committee in terms of age and years of service because of its dedication to public service, which is what drew so many to the practice of elder law originally. The Committee has completed several projects, including publication of the Senior Citizens Handbook and three pamphlets entitled "Selecting a Nursing Home, "Selecting a Personal Care Home," and "Legal Rights of Nursing Home Residents." The Committee has conducted public education forums and media projects; drafted legislation for personal care, nursing home patient's rights, guardianship, and living wills; and has conducted elder abuse and domestic violence projects, advance directive trainings, and bank trainings on financial exploitations.

The Elder Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia promotes the development of substantive skills for attorneys working with older clients through continuing education programs. The section monitors and reports on legislation, case law, and regulations related to elder law, and undertakes studies of emerging topics in the field of elder law
