As Chair of the Section on Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, it’s my pleasure to invite you to the Section’s Spring Meeting in Las Vegas, April 11 -13, 2008. You’ll find that Vegas is easily accessible by air from almost everywhere. The weather should be beautiful and Vegas offers a huge range of family-friendly fun. Join us for the Saturday golf excursion, “veg out” around the pool, or explore the desert countryside or Hoover Dam. If you’ve never seen it, the Las Vegas Strip is unique in the world and it’s really worth a visit. The Paris Hotel is very luxurious, not to mention much cheaper than traveling to the real Paris! (Incidentally, if you want to buy tickets to the wonderful Cirque du Soleil, do so quickly on the internet as it’s almost sold out).
On Friday afternoon, meeting chair Jon Rusch is planning two programs of broad interest that are related to our Nevada venue. We’ll examine nuclear waste disposal and ask whether it should be transported to Yucca Mountain. Administrative law buffs will be interested in the problems of regulating the gambling industry—an important subject in many states besides Nevada. During our Council meeting, we’ll present a program on the controversial practice of Congressional earmarking in appropriations bills, particularly as it affects the rulemaking process. Our Section hopes to generate a recommendation to the ABA House of Delegates on this subject.
Our Saturday night dinner will be quite memorable as we peruse the collection of celebrities enshrined in Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. A fun time is guaranteed! So please make your plans to join us—and remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! |
