ADMINISTRATIVE & REGULATORY LAW NEWSWinter 1999, Vol 24 No2Outstanding Government Service Award to Labor Department Deputy Regional Solicitor At the Fall Meeting, the Section presented the Eleventh Annual Mary C. Lawton Award for Outstanding Government Service to Catherine Oliver Murphy, Deputy Regional Solicitor for the U.S. Department of Labor. Ms. Murphy has served 18 years in the Philadelphia Solicitor's Office, where she has litigated hundreds of cases before the Department's Administrative Law Judges. Advancing from Regional Counsel to Deputy Regional Solicitor, Ms. Murphy trains and supervises more than 20 attorneys and paralegals. Ms. Murphy was personally responsible for overseeing the Department's ADR pilot program in Region III and for developing a small-claims litigation program, for which she received a Reinventing Government Award from Vice President Gore in 1996. As the Solicitor of Labor wrote in her nomination, "Ms. Murphy deals daily on the front line with the nuts and bolts of cases and management initiatives that directly further the growth and potency of the administrative law process."
