Member NewsJohn Holmes published a book review in The Federal Lawyer on Robert Gates' book, From the Shadows: The Ultimate Insider's Story of Five Presidents and How They Won the Cold War. Kevin Sabo has left his position as General Counsel with the Government Reform and Oversight Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and has taken a new position as General Counsel to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Former Section Chair, Marion Edwyn Harrison has just completed two three-year terms as a Member of the Smithsonian Institution National Board. At the annual banquet of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, President Dwight Murray presented Joel Bennett with an award for Special Recognition for Service to the Legal Community. In April, The New York Times had a nice write up on former Section Chair Paul Verkuil, whose most recent accomplishment was delivering as a Special Master for the Supreme Court a proposed decision as to the ownership of Ellis Island. In Solomonic fashion, his decision awarded part of the island to New York and part to New Jersey. Verkuil has now become Dean of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in New York City. The Times article quoted a number of leading legal lights commenting on Verkuil, among them was Professor Richard J. Pierce, Jr. of George Washington University School of Law. West Publishing Company recently published the newest administrative law casebook, authored by Professors William Funk, Sidney Shapiro, and Russell Weaver. According to the authors, their book is distinguished from other administrative law casebooks by its emphasis on administrative law practice.
