ADMINISTRATIVE & REGULATORY LAW NEWS

We're always looking for better ways to serve our members and the public. We appreciate your comments.

Section News

The Section has completed its move to Washington, D.C.. Colocated with a number of other sections in the ABA building at 740 15th Street, N.W., the Section also has acquired a new Staff Director, Cynthia R. Price.

At the Annual Meeting in August 1995, the ABA adopted three recommendations proposed by the Section. One, co-sponsored by the Antitrust and Business Law sections, recommended that Federal agencies should commit to periodic reviews of existing regulations and that Congress should require such reviews and provide adequate resources for them, but not mandate prescriptive requirement for them. The recommendation also provides guidelines for an effective review program. Another recommendation, cosponsored with the Criminal Justice Section, asks the U.S. Sentencing Commission to adopt and publish rules of practice and procedure and to use notice-and-comment rulemaking for its rules. A third recommendation, which the Section sponsored with the Judicial Administration Division, urged the Social Security Administration to adopt identified pre-hearing, hearing, and post-hearing measures to address the backlog of disability cases, and which restated support for a claimant's right to a due process hearing before an ALJ.

At the Section of Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice we are always looking for new and better ways to serve our members, the bar and the public. If you have any comments, ideas or features you would like us to incorporate, or if you have difficulties with any of the links in these pages, please contact the Section's Webmaster.
