Professor Rodolphe J.S. de Seife of Northern Illinois University College of Law has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Arab-American Bar Association of Illinois. The second edition of his book on the Shar'ia is forthcoming.

Edward Steinhouse, formerly Deputy Chief Counsel of the Health Care Financing Administration, has retired from the Federal Government after 32 years of service. He intends to consult on Medicare issues.

Joel P. Bennett, former vice chair of the Government Personnel Committee, was elected Vice Chair of the Law Practice Management Section of the ABA.

Thomas Susman, former Section Chair and a partner in the Washington office of Ropes and Gray, was named to the ABA's Board of Governors.

Professor David Markell of Albany Law School is co-author of a book on New York State administrative law, entitle New York Procedure and Practice, recently published by West Publishing.

Lawrence Baxter has left Duke Law School to become Senior Vice President and Special Counsel for Strategic Development at Wachovia Corporation in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He describes his new job as working with a group of analysts to identify future trends in the financial services industry, with his particular contribution in the area of legal, political, and regulatory issues.

Jeffrey Lubbers, Research Director of the former Administrative Conference of the United States, is teaching a seminar on administrative law at American University Law School this semester.

Professor William Funk of Lewis and Clark Law School was recently appointed to an advisory committee to assist the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality in drafting regulations under Oregon's new hazardous waste cleanup law. Professor Funk also made a presentation on regulatory reform legislation and environmental law to the Environmental Law Section at the Association of American Law Schools' Convention in San Antonio.

Council Member Trevor Potter resigned from the Federal Elections Commission effective October 24 and spent the rest of the fall at Oxford teaching Comparative Political Science.

Robert E. Stein, liaison from our Section to the ABA's AIDS Coordinating Committee since 1989, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Committee.

Rebecca Thomson, Chair of the Natural Resources Committee, has departed D.C. and Crowell & Moring for Big Sky country, joining Gough, Shanahan, Johnson & Waterman in Helena, Montana, where she will continue her practice on behalf of timber and mining interests.
