Price Gouging Laws and Other Assorted Characters:
What is the Best Way to Deal with Gasoline Pricing?

January 30, 2007
Noon – 2:00 p.m.

Location: American Bar Association, 740 15th Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

Government officials, in response to political pressures from angry and voting motorists, have undertaken several actions recently to combat rising gas prices. These actions range from economic studies to proposed legislation to law enforcement actions. Quite naturally, state and federal legislators and regulators have looked to their antitrust and consumer protection enforcement tools to provide relief for the driving public. This program will analyze the role and appropriateness of government regulation in stabilizing energy prices. The panelists will share their perspectives as current and former federal and state regulators, as well as some views from the perspective of private clients in the energy industry.
