SECTION OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW & REGULATORY PRACTICE
More About The Section of Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice
The Administrative Law Section of the ABA is the place for "one-stop
shopping" for cutting edge information on all regulatory schemes at both the Federal
and State levels. The beauty of the Section is that all regulatory disciplines fall within
it, so you do not have to be a member of more than one Section to stay current on
substantive and procedural developments in all the areas that impact your practice and
your clients.
To help Section members stay abreast of current developments in their substantive
practice specialties, the Section has a established a wide range of Government Functions Committees dealing with most of the
substantive legal topics and practice areas that are part of Administrative Law and
Regulatory Practice. Other Committees cover Administrative
Procedure and Judicial Review issues that are common to most, if not all areas of
regulatory law. Section Committees frequently engage in law reform activities, including
the drafting of reports and recommendations to Congress and administrative agencies
regarding administrative and regulatory law matters on behalf of the Section and the ABA
as a whole. The Section and its Committees regularly sponsors CLE programs and holds
quarterly meetings of great benefit to members. A few recent and upcoming events and CLE
programs can be found at the Calendar of Events.
The Section also has Activities Committees and Ad Hoc Committees.
As you might expect from a Section covering such a broad spectrum, our members are our
strength, and the Section's moderate size makes it easy to benefit from the opportunity to
get to know and network with them. The Section proudly counts Justices Scalia and Breyer
among its alumni. In fact, Justice Breyer hosted a reception at the Supreme Court for the
Section during its 1995 Fall Meeting. The Section also includes many renowned academics,
and public- and private-sector leaders. For example, both Ted Olson (of Morrison
v. Olson) and Judge Patricia Wald of the D.C. Circuit are former Council
members, and Richard Wiley, former FCC Chair and now a private sector leader in
communications law, is a former Section Chair.
The Administrative & Regulatory Law News is a quarterly newsletter filled with
timely and informative articles such as Supreme
Court News, analyzing recent Supreme Court decisions, News From the Circuits, covering recent federal
decisions, and News From the States, covering
recent developments in Administrative and Regulatory Law at the State level. Most issues
contain an article on Congressional or White House activities that impact administrative
law, such as the various regulatory reform bills before Congress.

You can browse the Back Issues for a discussion of

administrative law, an annual review of administrative law cases, and research reports on

It's easy to become active in the Section, with all of the
Committees spanning such a broad spectrum of interests. Find out how you can become
