46. FORUM ON COMMUNICATIONS LAW PRESENTS PROGRAMS FOR COMMUNICATIONS BAR

The American Bar Association Forum on Communications Law Annual Conference in January presented plenary sessions on three major hot button issues facing the media and their lawyers. Two sessions on the first day presented first a retrospective on the Pentagon Papers case, featuring some of the key players in this high profile litigation, including Daniel Ellsberg; and a panel discussing attempts by sports organizations, entertainers and others to condition access to and otherwise control coverage and exploitation of their images and content in the media. The third plenary session recreated a “Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing” on the proposed Federal Shield Law, a panel that included former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton.

In April, the Forum again presented its always popular program “Representing Your Local Broadcasters” in conjunction with the annual National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas. It was the 25th year for this Conference presented by the Forum.

Finally, the Forum launched a completely new venture, its newest seminar activity – a complete and thorough study of the numerous aspects of data privacy, one of the hottest and fastest developing areas of practice in the communications industry. This new seminar was held in Washington, D.C.

In addition to these important programs, the Forum launched a new journal – the Journal of International Media and Entertainment Law in the Summer of 2006.
