42. LEGAL TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE CENTER MOVES POPULAR PUBLICATION TO RSS; CONTINUES MISSION OF PROVIDING TECH ASSISTANCE TO MEMBERS
The ABA’s Legal Technology Resource Center, a one-stop source of knowledge and help for lawyers on technology issues of all kinds, has expanded the ways in which ABA members can receive Site-tation, an e-newsletter that highlights useful Web sites, gadgets and technology news of interest to lawyers. Once accessible only through e-mail, Site-tation is now available as a real-time RSS feed. And just what is an RSS feed?
“RSS,” which stands for either Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, provides news on demand to your computer. Instead of making you actively keep up with the news you’re interested in, RSS “pushes” the information out to you. It’s a relatively new technology, but will become more and more prevalent as providers and users both learn more about it. To take advantage of RSS, you’ll first want to read LTRC’s FYI on RSS. New Site-tation content will continue to be available via a monthly e-mail subscription.
LTRC provides a wealth of other information and insight for lawyers on the whole range of technology issues they face. Its Web site has “Info Centers” on everything from Web development, mobile computing, online research and court technology to information specially chosen for solo and small firm lawyers and law-related non-profits and bar associations. Recent FYI’s (overview papers) talk about such topics as the importance of backup, how to dispose of an old computer ethically, available software options for tracking CLE credits, and “technology terms defined,” which links to online sources you can reach for when the newest buzzword comes across your desk — or out of your tech guru’s mouth. LTRC offerings include:
- Resources including articles, presentations, electronic discussion forums, surveys, comparative studies, and more on the Web at www.lawtechnology.org.
- Telephone or e-mail consultation and assistance for ABA members seeking information on practice technology;
- Customized presentations on current technology issues and topics for bar associations, legal technology conferences, and law firms;
- Communications, such as Site-tation (above) and Lawtech, the legal technology email discussion group;
- Research to assess the use of technology in the legal community. The Center administers an annual technology survey to practicing attorneys, covering availability and usage of a wide range of general and legal-specific technologies.
LTRC staff are available via a helpline (312) 988-5465 or via e-mail.
