About The Lawyer's Guide to Adobe Acrobat

The Lawyer's Guide to Adobe Acrobat, Third Edition was written to help lawyers increase productivity, decrease costs, and improve client services by moving from paper-based files to digital records. This updated and revised edition focuses on the ways lawyers can benefit from using the most current software, Adobe® Acrobat 8, to create Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

PDF files are reliable, easy-to-use, electronic files for sharing, reviewing, filing, and archiving documents across diverse applications, business processes, and platforms. The format is so reliable that the federal courts' Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) program and state courts that use LexisNexis File & Serve have settled on PDF as the standard. According to expert author David L. Masters: "More than 27 million cases are on CM/ECF systems, and more than 200,000 attorneys and others have filed documents via the Internet."

The latest version of Acrobat has a number of useful features for the legal professional, including Bates numbering and redaction. Users can even export all correspondence from Microsoft Outlook, covert it to a PDF file and then associate the files with the appropriate client, making it simple to find what you need right away. You can also turn all those boxes of paper files into "space-saving" secure PDF files by using Acrobat and a scanner.

You'll learn how to:
  • Create PDF files from a number of programs, including Microsoft Office

  • Use PDF files the smart way

  • Markup text and add comments

  • Digitally, and securely, sign documents

  • Extract content from PDF files

  • Create electronic briefs and forms

What Your Colleagues are Saying

"The definitive book on using Adobe Acrobat in the law office just got better. The third edition improves an already great resource. The newest features are covered in detail. It's nice to have a single resource that covers a topic so thoroughly and that doesn't require a degree in computers to understand. This is the one and only book you need to use Acrobat in a law office. Although it is geared specifically for lawyers, it is probably the best book on Acrobat for any user in any office." -- Andrew C. Simpson, Solo Practitioner, U.S. Virgin Islands

"The very first thing I did when I got home was to sit down and read your book, cover to cover, in one sitting. As I'm already very familiar with Acrobat, the read took only an hour or two. The very next thing I did was to get online and order a duplex color scanner to replace my old clunker of a flat bed. The revolution has begun!" -- Linda Levin, Deputy Town Clerk, Town of Telluride
