ABA Standards for Criminal Justice: DNA Evidence is one of a multi-volume set of publications containing American Bar Association Standards on Criminal Justice on a wide range of topics. The "black letter" Standards contained and discussed in this publication relate to collecting, preserving and use of DNA evidence, DNA testing, pretrial proceedings, trial, post-conviction, charging by DNA profile, and DNA databases. The "black letter" Standards were approved by the American Bar Association's policymaking House of Delegates in August 2006. The commentary was approved by the Criminal Justice Standards Committee in July 2007.
Although this publication is part of the Third Edition of the Criminal Justice Standards, this is the first volume relating to DNA Evidence.

The "black letter" Standards contained in the publication were drafted by a Criminal Justice Standards Task Force on DNA Evidence, chaired by the Honorable Martin Marcus, New York State Supreme Court, Bronx, New York. The Reporter was Professor Paul C. Giannelli, Case Western Reserve University. The commentary was drafted by Professor Giannelli and approved by the Standards Committee.
