Program description:
The ALU Law Career Youth Initiative was created to link students in District of Columbia high schools with students and faculty at Abraham Lincoln University Law School. African American and Latino students, with an interest in law careers, are identified by counselors and teachers in 30 public and private high schools. The program consists of opportunities for students to visit law classes and interact with students, faculty, and "shadow" lawyers who have recently graduated from ALU and are employed in law firms, government agencies, and related settings in the District of Columbia. A number of participating students have been able to obtain summer employment in law offices as a result of participation in this program. A mentoring program where high school students interested in law careers are linked with law school students is being designed for inclusion in the program in 2006.
