American Bar Association Observes Law Day in DC: A Legacy of Liberty -
Celebrating Lincoln's Bicentennial

April 27, 2009—The following activities are slated for Law Day, established by President Dwight Eisenhower on May 1, 1958 to celebrate the rule of law and recognize the contributions of the women and men who work on behalf of our system of law and justice. The national theme for Law Day this year is “A Legacy of Liberty—Celebrating Lincoln’s Bicentennial.” 
 
Tuesday, April 28
Breakfast with the Close-Up Foundation
Teachers from around the nation will hear from professor and Lincoln scholar, Paul Finkelman. The ABA Division for Public Education and Close-Up Foundation will co-host this event.
 
Wednesday, April 29
Dialogue on Lincoln
Duke Ellington School for the Arts
Washington, DC
The ABA will conduct a Dialogue with students at Duke Ellington. The Dialogue will focus on three areas of discussion: Lincoln’s life, including his career as a lawyer; his decisions as a wartime president; and the portrayal of his image in the media.
